Alarms:
A
Cost-Effective
Theft
Deterrent
by
Kirk
Bangstad
It
is
true
that
each
community
has
different
levels
of
crime.
Larger
cities
tend
to
be
a
bit
more
dangerous,
and
small
rural
towns
generally
have
to
worry
more
about
livestock
getting
out
of
hand
than
burglars.
You
can
generally
gauge
the
level
of
crime
in
your
community
by
keeping
your
eyes
and
ears
open.
If
you
think
that
you
live
in
a
relatively
high
crime
area,
and
are
worried
about
criminals
breaking
into
your
home,
you
may
want
to
consider
investing
in
a
home
security
alarm
system.
Home
security
alarm
systems
are
great
theft
deterrents.
For
obvious
reasons,
burglars
hate
them.
Spotting
one
around
a
front
door
can
really
ruin
their
night.
They
hate
them
because
they
tend
to
be
lazy
people.
They
don't
want
to
have
to
work
hard
to
steal
your
stuff.
If
they
didn't
mind
hard
work,
they
probably
would
have
found
a
less
risky
occupation.
Because
burglars
don't
want
to
work
too
hard
to
steal
your
stuff,
they'll
generally
slink
away
in
frustration
when
they
see
your
home
security
alarm
system.
If
the
burglar
robbing
your
house
is
thick-headed,
he
may
try
to
disarm
your
alarm.
Generally,
a
quality
home
security
alarm
system
is
designed
with
back-up
systems
that
will
engage
if
the
first
system
is
disengaged
improperly.
If
the
alarm
system
senses
anything
fishy,
it
first
sounds
an
alarm,
and
then
alerts
the
police
automatically
to
send
a
squad
car
to
your
home.
If
the
alarm
doesn't
scare
the
burglar
off,
the
police
probably
will.
